Guesthouse in local Islands-could this be a popular product in Maldives tourism?

Maldivian Government has recently opened its doors to all interested locals and foreigners to apply for permits to operate Guesthouses in Local Islands. This opportunity had become a golden chance for small business to move to the next level with their business and at the same time paves ways to get foreign currency ie: US$ which the entire country heavily depends on.

So what do we gain from choosing a guesthouse in an inhabited island?  For those who like to explore local life style and mingle with locals to experience the day to day local life styles, this is a great opportunity. These guesthouses, are mostly located in isolated areas of tiny islands with a population of average 1000. The men from these islands mostly goes out for fishing during the day and the women and the elderly citizens stay on the island with their children and grand children and are welcoming like always. For those who are interested about experiencing pure local lifestyle, this will serve as a golden opportunity.

What do we get to eat? The guests who stay in these tiny guesthouses are served local cuisine as well as western dishes. for those who fancy a decent meal in a nearby resort, this also can be an option in most of the island guesthouses.

What activities do we get?
Guests get the opportunity to join traditional fishing trips with the professional fishermen or hire a boat to go out with the skipper. Snorkeling trips, diving and picnics are also among many activities to choose from.
